MASTER OF ARTS IN THEOLOGY
The University of Blantyre Synod is a private institution of higher learning with a special responsibility of providing instruction in higher education for advancing knowledge through scholarship and research, and for providing related services to the community.
The Faculty has sixteen modules to be covered by student of which ten are the core modules and four are electives. Students are required to take 5 core modules and 2 electives per semester. These modules include those dealing the ethics, history, theological trends, contemporary issues, religious issues, health issues and development issues. The Faculty of Theology will strive to offer quality and excellent education through its modules providing the basis of moral education both for academic ends and professional careers and training for sustainable development through the advancement of education, training, research, consultancy and outreach programmes.
The Masters Programme is a full time course work which runs for two years: One year of class-work and the second year of thesis writing and defense. The students in the faculty will be mentored to become aware of the need to be relevant in their community or place of service through their various professions and careers. The faculty therefore has programmes and modules that provide opportunities for students to interact with the local communities to establish projects that address prevailing problems.
FACULTY OF COMMERCE
Under this faculty, two distinctive programmes are offered namely BCBM and BCM.
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (BCBM)
Bachelor of Business Management (BCBM) is one of the degree programmes to be offered by the University of Blantyre Synod. The broad aim of the BCBM Programme is to mould students into professionals and leaders capable of confronting, challenging and transforming the social, economic and spiritual resources of the Malawian society. Along the way, the programme shall instill into students globally tried and tested business principles, models and theories. It is the belief of UBS that globally tried and tested business principles, models and theories can contribute towards addressing many of the challenges in Malawi and beyond.
The proposed BCBM programme is a four-year semesterized programme. It is envisaged that the first two years of the programme will provide students with knowledge from different business related courses that will assist students in establishing a proper foundation for more specialized business management courses in the third and fourth years of the programme. Apart from taught courses, in the second semester of the fourth year, students are expected to conduct a supervised research project on any topic relevant to business management.
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE - MARKETING PROGRAMME (BCM)
Bachelor of Commerce - Marketing (BCM) is one of the degree programmes to be offered by UBS. The broad aim of the BCM Programme is to mould students into professionals that are capable of applying planning, assessment, analysis, communication, sales, teamwork, research, and employ supervisory techniques to support the marketing activities of an organisation. It is the belief of the Blantyre Synod University that graduates of Marketing Management program will, therefore, be able to work in a broad range of employment settings in all sectors of business and industry, both domestic and international, including retailers, banks and other financial institutions, government offices, marketing consultancy firms and small businesses.
